Wednesday 29 September 2004

Well now - I don't seem to have done this in a dog's age. Trouble is, blogging's got to wait till Wednesday's these days, after which I will have forgotten most of the weekend, that being typically the more interesting portion of my week. Ah well.

In any case, I took the whole of Friday off to go to Brighton for the weekend. A not inconsiderable train journey ensued, and while I waited for Andy I wended my way down to "the pier that's fallen down" and stared at the sea for a bit. Oh, and had a "chip bap" with obscene quantities of salt and vinegar, because I was paying over the odds and because the government is trying to persuade me to cut back on salty food.

Andy pitched up by the pier that hasn't fallen down and we went for a drink. We talked and stuff, and then went back to his place. I can't remember what we did before the evening, whereupon some people went out, and some people arrived. The ones who arrived played scrabble, in which I came last. It's okay though, as I won yesterday having consumed much more alcohol.

Saturday was a day of wandering. I woke up earlier than Andy as I wanted to find a church. There was one by Hove town hall, another Sacred Heart. I got back and did some washing up from the previous night and had toast and Special K. Dinner at Andy's parents which involved bread, cheese and avocados. Never had avacados before. In the evening went to the leaving do of one of the support staff at Varndean (sp?) where Andy works. We went to a pub and Zosia phoned me. Crazy.

9:30 mass at Sacred Heart, and a little girl in front of me discovered that she was double-jointed, experimentally manouevering her fingers. Was going to wander over to Andy's church afterwards, but the doors were intimidatingly closed, making it more difficult to sneak in, and I couldn't really be bothered. Then we went to demonstrate. This involved listening to some speakers, including Tony Robinson, and walking loudly towards the Labour Party's conference centre making noise with pots and bongos and things. I didn't bring anything like that. Two minutes' silence and then approximately 1.5 mins noise. Afterwards we wandered a bit more and the watched Shaun of the Dead. Well that was a very incomplete version of my weekend - what with Zosia, Rob and James all pitching up at various stages back in Exeter there's still much more to be said, but I'm a bit bored of blogging now.

These Malaysians are crazy...
I'm heading back to Malaysia 24 Nov - 8 Jan so if you don't mind car-sitting again, you can have it for xmas[.]
Sorry 'bout not blogging - been busy busy busy.

Friday 17 September 2004

I have now left the council and have started my teacher training course. Despite doing a PGCE for secondary school I have just spent the last two weeks in a primary school and absolutely loved it. I got to take the whole of year 5 this afternoon for a little while for story time. That was a little scary but the teacher said I did really well as I kept stopping and asking them questions and things. It probably helped that the book that I was reading to them is quite good. Might actually see if I can get it out of the library or something to see what happens.

Next week I start at the university so that's going to be fun. I haven't been at university for a few years so its going to seem a little strange I think. Mind you so was being in school at first and I seemed to settle into that quite well. Adrian keeps saying that I'm a bit teachery. I'm not sure whether this is a good thing or not. He knows someone who is doing teacher training from choir who might be on my course so at least I may know one friendly face next week.

that's about all that's happening at the moment. I can't do taekwondo yet because of fracturing my arm although its a lot better and I've more or less got full movement of it. Can't quite get it straight yet but I've been told that can take quite a while to get it fully straight. That means I'm missing the grading on Sunday but I don't mind. I'd much rather my arm got better properly before I go back. Hopefully should be alright to start doing a bit of taekwondo in a week or two. Sues told me I can just do bits of the training to begin with if I want which is good, especially as I've done no exercise since we went to Scotland.

Monday 13 September 2004

I went to a garden centre today to get some herbs, as the garden has been cleared by someone who Steve calls "the old boy". About eight quid and a woman with what can only be described as a moustache later, I have a watering can, some spearmint and St. John's wort. Mino informs me that he bought some basil from Tesco only the other week too. Hmm.

Why am I 403'd on the CathSoc blog page?

Anyway, Ben R. arrived fairly early this morning, Steve shortly after, and we gave him a hand moving his stuff, his mum disdained our house and now I'm blogging. And James has exciting news, but if you'd read his blog - as I suspect you are likely to have before mine - you would know that. Ben is an English student apparently, so Norris is probably fearing a two-pronged attack, although most English students can't spell or use apostrophes. He doesn't seem relentlessly communicative at the minute, but hopefully it's just a question of settling down.

Steve got us new toilet seats, which is nice, but they're plastic with a bubbular effect in them, which is fairly nasty to tell the truth. And Rob's really heavy curtain-track-destroying curtains have been replaced with some very butch floral ones. Mmmm, nice.

DCC are organising a trip to Exeter Synagogue! I must buy a hat.

Wednesday 8 September 2004

Hello; long time no blog.

Apparently Steve the landlord or some of his associates came round today, because Rob's old room and Dan's old room were both locked with the keys missing. Also, I found this computer outside Rob's room. I would have moved it had I known they were coming - Ah well. I had a sneaky peek, and I don't reckon those rooms are any cleaner than after I tidied them. They just moved all the furniture into the middle of the room - is this the function of a landlord; to centralise furniture? Since Dan sort of moved out, I've been tidying up in preparation for the Bens, both of whom are coming this weekend.

Dan came round yesterday, to finish moving out. Moving out is something that Dan does in stages, it would seem. There still remains the stage of moving his futon out of James' room, where it has taken up residence, but he does know about it. He and I also reassembled the bed that he had disassembled immediately upon moving in for some reason.

Today (I think) is rubbish day, and, in a fit of presence of miind, I put the bins out. I also sprayed the garden with weedkiller. Hopefully this will sort out the bitch-ass nettles at least. I left some weedkiller in the can for those bad boys.

Recycling with Norris in a minute.

Arse.

Today should be the day for transferring my homebrew from the tub to the pressure-barrel.

I don't think I'll be doing that, as the tap just came off in my hand. How crap is that?
